Who ATTAR Lab is looking for?

Prospective Academic Collaborators: ATTAR Lab values the expertise and insights of both clinical and non-clinical academics. Clinicians bring critical real-world perspectives that guide our AI solutions to address pressing medical needs effectively. Your clinical experience and knowledge can help shape our research direction, ensuring that our innovations have a tangible impact on patient care. Non-clinician academics, including those from fields like computer science, engineering, mathematics, and physics, are essential in advancing the technical foundations of our projects. By collaborating, we merge practical healthcare challenges with advanced technological solutions, fostering groundbreaking research that can transform medical practice. Please express your interest in potential research partnerships, initiating initial discussions to explore synergies and mutual interests.

Prospective Postdoctoral Researchers: As a postdoctoral researcher at ATTAR Lab, you will have the opportunity to lead pioneering projects that push the boundaries of medical AI. You will work closely with an interdisciplinary team of experts, contributing to high-impact publications and advancements in the field. Your role will involve not only conducting cutting-edge research but also mentoring junior researchers and contributing to grant-writing efforts. This position offers a platform to further develop your research career, with access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources, and the chance to make significant contributions to the future of healthcare. When Postdoctoral positions become available, they will be posted on reputable job platforms such as www.jobs.ac.uk and www.jobs.soton.ac.uk.

Prospective PhD Researchers: ATTAR Lab has several positions available for highly motivated students. The university offers scholarships for exceptional candidates, but these opportunities are highly competitive, especially for international applicants who must have outstanding academic qualifications. I recommend that prospective international students explore external scholarship options offered by their home governments, professional organizations, or industries. Alternatively, if they are willing to pay the difference in tuition fees between home and international levels, they should clearly indicate so to be considered for the home student scholarship as well. All PhD applications must be submitted through the ECS admission portal. Please be sure to specify me as your proposed supervisor to ensure that your application reaches me directly. In your cover letter, please outline the research area you wish to pursue,  discuss your skills, weaknesses, and what motivates your academic interests, and explain why you are interested in pursuing a PhD at Southampton under my supervision. Motivated individuals who are interested in having an informal discussion before formally applying to the University are welcome to email me.

BSc/MEng/MSc Projects: We're looking forward to welcoming motivated ECS students to collaborate with us on real-world and engaging projects related to artificial medical intelligence. If you'd like to work on a project within this research area for your Part III or MSc projects, please make sure to select the following keywords in the Choices system for the project allocation process: "Artificial Medical Intelligence," "Medical Image Computing," "Biomedical Image Analysis," and "Data Science in Medicine". These keywords will help to match your research interests with this lab and will allow you to join the ATTAR Lab.

Internship/Work Placement: We occasionally offer unfunded internships for motivated students who demonstrate exceptional quality and commitment. These placements typically last for more than three months and provide valuable hands-on experience in our research projects at ATTAR Lab, focusing on cutting-edge developments in artificial medical intelligence.
